Pupils create a time capsule for the church

The countdown to the official re-opening of Sheerness Dockyard Church in June began on Thursday 20 April with the long-awaited placing of a time capsule in what will soon become a green outdoor space for building users.

The capsule contents were gathered from many local organisations by students from the Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, who began the project back in 2021, consequently the time capsule will reflect life on the Isle of Sheppey during Covid 19 and the time since the pandemic as well as the restoration journey of the building by the Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust. A plaque marking the location of the capsule marks the spot.

Students & the Head of Community Hub Paul Murray from Oasis Academy were joined by Trust Chairman, Will Palin for the siting of the capsule and a special preview tour of the interior transformed building, soon to become Island Works Business Enterprise Hub, featuring hireable spaces as well as a display of sections of the Great Dockyard Model and a café, all open to the public.
